Lead the Change with Science-Based Greenhouse Gas Targets

Stand out in a competitive market. With rising customer demands and evolving supply chain mandates, setting science-based greenhouse gas (GHG) targets isn’t just smart—it’s essential.

Surpass Customer Standards

Align with your customer’s sustainability expectations. Top companies are choosing suppliers with clear, measurable climate targets, giving you a distinct advantage.

Cultivate Trust

Show investors, employees, and customers you’re on top of climate challenges with SBTi – the gold standard in emissions management. Build credibility and foster confidence in your business.

Safeguard Your Future

Combat climate uncertainty head-on. Science-based targets enable you to identify, assess, and reduce risks—ensuring your operations remain resilient in a changing environment.

Lead Supply Chain Innovation

Supply chains are evolving fast. By setting robust GHG targets now, you not only meet current mandates but also position your business as a forward-thinking leader in sustainability.

Supply Chain Mandates Driving Greenhouse Gas Target Setting

GHG Target Setting

Major brands are setting clear expectations: if you are a supplier, aligning with science-based targets isn’t just a sustainability goal—it’s a business imperative. Here’s how leading companies are driving the shift:

GHG Target Setting

Marriott Requires 22% of suppliers (by emissions) covering purchased goods, capital goods, and upstream transportation to have science-based targets by 2028.

GHG Target Setting

Keurig Dr. Pepper Mandates that 50% of suppliers (by emissions) across purchased goods, downstream transportation, processing of sold products, and end-of-life treatment set targets by 2024.

GHG Target Setting

Staples Expects 70% of suppliers (by spend) in areas like purchased goods and upstream transportation to achieve GHG reduction targets by FY2027.

GHG Target Setting

Aldi Aims for suppliers covering 75% of product-related emissions to establish science-based targets by 2024.

GHG Target Setting

AstraZeneca Plans for 95% of key supplier spending to go to companies with approved science-based targets by 2025.

By meeting these mandates, you not only secure your position in the supply chain but also demonstrate a robust commitment to reducing climate risks—keeping you competitive and future-ready.

Still have questions about SBTi & setting GHG targets?

What are GHG targets?

Greenhouse gas (GHG) targets are specific emissions reduction goals set by companies to reduce their GHG emissions over time. These targets are usually in line with relevant global goals, like reaching net zero emissions by 2050 or sooner.

How do you set GHG targets?

At Good.Lab, we simplify the GHG target-setting process with a data-driven, compliance-ready approach in line with industry best practices:

Assess Your Emissions Baseline – We help companies measure Scope 1, 2, and 3 emissions using industry-leading methodologies.

Benchmark – Compare your emissions against industry peers to define a feasible reduction pathway.

Select the Right Target – Choose the right target based on business needs and goals.

Reduce Impact – Optimize operations, adopt renewables, and enhance supply chains.

Monitor Progress – Annually report emissions to track your progress toward your goal.

What is a science-based GHG target?

A science-based target is a GHG reduction goal that aligns with climate science. Its goal is to limit global temperature rise to 1.5°C or well below 2°C. These targets are designed to ensure companies meet the globally agreed-upon targets under the Paris Agreement and avoid the worst effects of climate change.

What is the Science-Based Target Initiative (SBTi)?

The SBTi is a group set up to create best practices and to validate companies’ science-based emission reduction targets in line with climate science. Its goal is to ensure businesses contribute to limiting global warming to 1.5°C or well below 2°C, as outlined in the Paris Agreement.

Why set a science-based GHG target?

The main reason companies will set a science-based target is because their biggest customer requests them to do so, and in doing so helps them maintain their business relationship. However, there are also other benefits in potential cost reductions, efficiency, gains, risk mitigation, and improved brand reputation.
