EcoVadis Medal Thresholds Keep Rising: The Score You Need in 2026

If your company earned an EcoVadis medal two years ago, the same score might not earn one today. EcoVadis awards medals by percentile, so the score required for each medal rises as the companies it rates improve their performance.

Each year, scores improve. So the 35% threshold for a bronze medal gets harder every year.

As of July 1, 2026, EcoVadis's most recent medal cutoffs are: Platinum 87, Gold 81, Silver 73, Bronze 65. EcoVadis has not published fixed medal scores since 2024, so most figures online are out of date.

Here’s exactly what these scores mean for your company.

What score do you need for an EcoVadis medal in 2026?

It’s harder than ever to get an EcoVadis medal this year. That makes it harder to show your biggest customers that you're improving your sustainability score.

While your overall score is required to earn a medal, it's not the only requirement. To be eligible for any medal, a company needs at least 30 in each of the four themes: Environment, Labor and Human Rights, Ethics, and Sustainable Procurement.

Your percentile is calculated when your scorecard is published, against every company EcoVadis rated in the previous 12 months, across all industries. There are no industry-specific medal cutoffs, but from 2027 EcoVadis is set to base medal cutoffs on company size.

How have EcoVadis medal thresholds changed since 2020?

From 2020 through 2023, medals were awarded in wider bands:

  • Bronze went to the top 50% of rated companies
  • Silver went to the top 25%
  • Gold went to the top 5%
  • Platinum to the top 1%

In 2022, a Gold medal required a score of 67 to 74, and Platinum started at 75. In January 2024, EcoVadis tightened the bands. Bronze moved to the top 35% and Silver to the top 15%. That year, the score equivalents were:

  • 58 for Bronze
  • 66 for Silver
  • 73 for Gold
  • 81 for Platinum

Put simply, a Bronze score in 2026 is close to what earned Gold in 2022, and today's Gold cutoff is exactly what earned Platinum in 2024. Every medal has climbed six to eight points in roughly two years.

Why do EcoVadis medal thresholds continue to rise?

Because medals measure relative standing compared to other rated companies, not absolute performance.

EcoVadis now rates more than 150,000 companies, and those that reassess every year tend to improve. As the pool gets stronger, the score at each percentile goes up.

That creates a challenge for companies that treat EcoVadis as a one-off exercise, or that started late.

Scorecards are valid for 12 months. If your score holds steady while the pool improves, you can drop a medal tier, or lose your medal entirely, without anything changing on your side. Meaning constant improvement of your sustainability performance is a must. Standing still means falling behind.

Today is the best day to start improving your EcoVadis score

The biggest EcoVadis mistake companies make is waiting to start. An EcoVadis score can decide whether you win a contract, and the most reliable way to a high score is to start reporting as soon as you can and improve every year.

The data backs this up. The 2025 EcoVadis Global Index shows the average company score rising with every reporting cycle:

That 21-point climb from the first to the fifth cycle is the difference between no medal and a Bronze medal at today's cutoff of 65.

Scores climb because EcoVadis rewards maturity: stronger policies, progress made in response to EcoVadis feedback, deeper supplier engagement, and clearer governance and accountability. Each of these builds over cycles, so every cycle your competitors complete while you wait makes them harder to catch.

The fastest points come from policies. But the points that separate Silver from Gold come from results: measured emissions, science-based targets, tracked KPIs, supplier engagement data, and evidence that your commitments are being put into action. Higher medals increasingly require multi-year results.

Companies with the strongest EcoVadis results usually didn't start with perfect data and policies. They just started and made progress every year. That's why 2026 is the right time to build the systems, documentation, and processes your next assessment will be judged on.

EcoVadis medal score FAQs

Are EcoVadis medal thresholds different by industry?

No. Medals are based on your percentile rank against all companies rated in the previous 12 months, across every industry.

Does EcoVadis publish its medal score thresholds?

Not publicly. Since 2024, EcoVadis has awarded medals by percentile and does not publish score cutoffs because they shift over time.

Can I lose my EcoVadis medal if my score stays the same?

Yes. If other rated companies improve faster than you do, the same score can fall below the cutoff for your current medal.
